Petoskey Stone

General Information: The Petoskey Stone is Michigan's state stone — a fossil of the colonial coral Hexagonaria percarinata from the Devonian period (approximately 350 million years ago). When wet or polished, it reveals a beautiful honeycomb-like pattern of six-sided coral polyps. It is found as smoothed pebbles along the shores of Lake Michigan.
