Equinox Crystals

About This Crystal

General Information: Carnelian is an orange to red-orange variety of chalcedony (microcrystalline quartz), colored by iron oxide. It has been prized since antiquity — ancient Egyptians, Greeks, and Romans used it for seals, talismans, and jewelry.

Origin Locations: India, Brazil, Uruguay, Madagascar, and Botswana.

Related Chakras: Sacral, Root

Metaphysical Properties: Carnelian is known as the Stone of Motivation, Courage, and Creativity. It is believed to restore vitality, reignite passion, and encourage bold action toward one's goals and desires. Traditionally associated with the Sacral chakra, it supports healthy sexuality, creative expression, and emotional confidence. Carnelian is thought to dispel apathy and replace fear-based inaction with courageous initiative. It has also been used historically as a protective amulet, shielding against envy, rage, and resentment — both one's own and that directed by others.

Identification Tips: Orange to red-orange; translucent to opaque; waxy luster; color may be banded or uniform; hardness 6.5–7. Beware of dyed agate sold as carnelian — natural carnelian shows color variation when held to the light.

Popular Uses: Motivation, creative work, fertility, jewelry, meditation, courage-building, energy grids.
